My favourite moment of the week was when Steve approached Demi for the first time in the Rovers and said “ Well, there’s a welcoming pair. The pints, I mean!” 🤣

How can Brittlestar not like Bernie's character???? Shame on you! Shannon, knock some sense into that man, would ya?

Sure, Bernie's a bit of a hot mess a lot of the time, but her heart is pretty well always in the right place, even if her actions are sometimes sus. Personally, I think her character is quite compelling.

I think she and Dev together is the key to his cold, dead heart - we’ll get there 😜

I like their honesty to each other. Bernie told him the truth when he asked her unlike when Gemma asked her

Bernie has grown on me and the character has definitely evolved. She works hard and pulls her weight in the too small battery-Winter household. Oh she’s got her rough edges but she’s not the cow she was when she first arrived.

With regards to the Paramedic scenes, you may be surprised to know that Corrie was actually fairly accurate in their depiction. As a retired, paramedic and supervisor in Ontario, I can affirm that there really wasn’t anything unbelievable about Asha and Paul’s scenes. Firstly, it is very unfortunate however patient offload delays, including someone with Paul’s condition and worse, occur at hospitals all over. (To be honest, I was quite happy and impressed to see Corrie shedding light on this serious problem with our healthcare systems.) Secondly, as a paramedic student it would be expected that Asha would be left to care for the patient rather than to go into the hospital and check on bed availability. Patient care and comfort are what we want our students to learn and therefore we give them every opportunity to do so rather than the more mundane tasks. Asha would have the ability to contact her partner or preceptor (Training Officer) should her patient’s condition change to a point where she would need assistance.

Just thought I would share some real life and ‘insider’ info regarding that bit.

Thank you for this!! I had no idea!

I also liked that they highlighted off load delays (and know I know what they are called!). It’s important folk understand why there can be a low number of ambulances available.

I would have thought the ‘student’ would go into the hospital with this sort of patient. Thank you for educating us Paul 🙂

Great job that was a lot to cover! When Bernie was talking with Dev about her keepsake box she said something like “all my kids”. Does she have more?

When Maria was telling Gary how horrible she felt because she was just talking with Audrey and not home with Liam. She said “no conversation is worth it”. I hope that really knocked some sense into Gary.

I’m not sure which Platt woman I dislike more. Both Sarah and Bethany can leave town with Bobby.

My favourite this week was Sally telling Tim that he was her “Trophy Husband”.

Sally and Tim are so good together. I hope the writers don't ever decide to break them up.

A great recap from Newfoundland! What an awesome place - we visited a few years ago and didn't see near enough. We did get close to puffins, though, that was pretty cool!

Well, hope we've seen the last of Denny but probably not. Suggesting that Bernie has a secret was his purpose, I'm sure, and hopefully enough. I've been back and forth with the Bernie character but mostly I like her and can relate in some ways!

Gary is a dope and Sarah is so annoying. I'd forgotten that they'd been in a relationship at one time... I forget a lot more than I remember. But it's a closed loop on that street most of the time!

Sally can be the most annoying character but I really loved how she played up to Tim and it worked! Steve's new date is too good to be true but I really do want the best for him! He's like an Eeyore sometimes.....you just want to cheer him up!

I agree - the writers are skipping over some ambulance and hospital protocols that we've come to expect. I guess you don't want to have to pay too many extras?

I do recall that Dev was married at least once before the twin's mother and a sullen teen girl (daughter) showed up at some point... the rest is a blur. I did like the sharing between Dev and Bernie but they still just don't seem like a match to me.

So, I am considering waiting to watch new episodes until I read your updates - I don't want to know too much! Thanks again.

I appreciate that you are on the same level as most of us! I did go looking for background info and found a Coronation Street Wiki page and cautiously had a look... it says it's for UK viewers but the few that I looked up (Dev and Lauren and Bethany) didn't have any spoilers. There was one with another character but it was something I learned just this week. I won't be going there too often but it's fun to remember some things.

Dev's other children date back to when he had a string of shops, and a girl in every one. I can't remember how many he has. Does Bernie have another child that she gave up or list to Social Services? Is that the info that Denny said he knew? The Chit Chat theory about Demi is an interesting one. No matter what Steve does, I will always love him. He may be a bit of sadsack, but he's my sadsack, lol.

I kinda remember the kids running the other shops bit but then it’s weird we never saw them again? Frustrated I can’t recall Amber as mentioned by others.

I think you’re right about a child given up / taken away being what Denny is holding over Bernie.

Amber was one of Dev's other kids that was featured a few years ago when she was around and messing around with Sophie Webster. I believe she left to go live in London like so many others have.

I think Dev had set up a baby mama to manage every shop. He’s really put it about over the years 😉. Amber lived with Dev for quite some time but I don’t think any of his other kids have come home to roost… yet.

I think I remember someone saying years ago that Dev had 7 children, most of them with the staff in his assorted shops. One of the daughters was named Amber, and she arrived on the scene when her mother told Dev she'd had enough and he had to deal with his hellion of a child. (I may be paraphrasing! lol) I can't remember the specific storyline, or how long she stayed on the street. I agree with Melanie that Steve is a sweetie and I'd hate for him to go.

Lots happened last week, and you covered it all. Great job. Gem: yes something odd is happening. I thought it was just me wandering off in thought. Maria needs to adult up. Dumping Gary without any thought for Liam’s reaction even though she’s so over protective it is now creepy. She’s got PTSD From Liam’s ordeal.

I was really expecting Alya and Adam to end up with a scene on the 'love' bench after Sall and Tim's touching little moment there. That bench is getting a lot of action lately. I also enjoyed the Ste-im group chat line.

We only watch on GEM and we did see the scene where Pauls dad called about selling the wheel chair. You have to be careful, Gem will sometimes cut to the next episode in random spots. I've had to grab the remote and cancel the 'start next episode prompt' so it will play the whole thing more than once. Otherwise we love watching on GEM

Gary met Sarah on the street and she had a bottle of wine. I think that Sarah mentioned something about Damon and wanting to drink to forget about him and invited Gary up to her flat to share the wine.

Wasn’t that how they ended up in Sarah’s flat the first time when she tried to kiss him? This was (at least!) their second secret wine drinking!!

I thought so too! She always seems to be walking down the street with a bottle of wine, running into Gary, and inviting him up. When I saw it the second time I thought CBC was showing the wrong episode! lol

That’s exactly what happened. Also when Gary finally answered his phone and found out Liam was in the hospital. He tells Sarah why he has to leave and her response is “yeah, yeah of course”. Instead of something like Oh no! Is he okay? There was no concern for Liam only a disappointed look that she has to drink alone.

Yeah it was very tv-telephone convo. I do think Gary’s the best thing to happen to Liam however I agree - not a great response
